Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to greatly impact public governance by streamlining processes, improving decision-making, and enhancing efficiency. However, as AI technology becomes increasingly integrated into government operations, questions of accountability and transparency arise. This research paper examines the accountability of AI systems in public governance, focusing on the challenges and opportunities for ensuring responsible AI development and deployment. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing literature, case studies, and expert interviews, this paper explores the current state of AI accountability in public governance and proposes recommendations for enhancing transparency and oversight in AI-powered decision-making processes. As AI continues to shape the future of public governance, ensuring accountability is crucial to safeguard democratic values, protect individual rights, and maintain public trust. This research paper will provide valuable insights into the complexities of AI accountability, highlighting the need for a multi-faceted approach that combines technical, legal, ethical, and social considerations. By addressing these challenges and promoting responsible AI development and deployment, we can harness the potential of AI to improve public services while mitigating risks and ensuring that AI serves the public interest.
