The game of football, once a vibrant and essential part of Jammu’s cultural and athletic identity, has witnessed a marked reduction over the past few years. This research paper investigates deeply into the multilayered causes and consequences of this drop, exploring the intersection of facility-related, administrative, socio-political and cultural factors that have led to the lessening of football in the district. Although Jammu has a strong football tradition and a committed community of players and fans, the sport has steadily weakened due to limited financial support, outdated and poorly maintained facilities, administrative uncertainty, a shortage of youth-oriented programs, and the overwhelming national preference for cricket. Moreover, limited media coverage, sustained political unrest and overall lack of attention from local and national sports bodies has accelerated the sport's deterioration. This investigation combines qualitative insights from interviews with local coaches, players, and administrators, with quantitative data on participation rates, funding patterns, and performance trends, to present a detailed analysis of the sport’s development. The analysis emphasizes the pressing need for policy changes, active community collaboration, and strategic financial support to bring football back to life in Jammu. This research not only aims to investigate the current state of decline but also to suggest a roadmap for the sport’s potential revival in the region.
