Abstract

Kerala, renowned for its vibrant culture and lush landscapes, has a unique dietary tradition. This study aims to explore the diet quality of individuals in Kerala, focusing on the diversity of healthy foods consumed and the socio-economic factors that influence dietary choices.

Through a combination of dietary surveys, interviews, and socio-economic data analysis, the study will investigate the following:

  • Healthy food diversity: The variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and other nutrient-rich foods consumed by individuals in Kerala.
  • Dietary patterns: The prevalence of traditional Keralite diets and the extent of dietary changes influenced by globalization and urbanization.
  • Socio-economic determinants: The impact of factors such as income, education, occupation, and geographical location on dietary choices and access to healthy foods.
  • Nutritional adequacy: The extent to which the diets of individuals in Kerala meet recommended nutritional guidelines.

The findings of this study will contribute to a better understanding of the dietary habits of Keralites and provide valuable insights for policymakers and public health professionals. By identifying the factors that influence diet quality, this study will inform interventions aimed at promoting healthy eating habits and improving public health in Kerala.
