Abstract

This study investigates the socio-economic barriers to education in Hathras District, Uttar Pradesh, identifying key challenges and proposing potential solutions. Utilizing secondary data sources, including government reports and previous research, as well as qualitative and quantitative methods, the research highlights significant obstacles such as poverty, gender disparities, caste-based discrimination, and inadequate infrastructure. Poverty is identified as the most critical barrier, with many families unable to afford basic educational materials or the costs associated with school attendance. Gender inequality further exacerbates these challenges, as girls face additional obstacles, including early marriage, household responsibilities, and cultural norms that undervalue female education. Caste-based discrimination, particularly against marginalized groups like Dalits, contributes to higher dropout rates and poor academic performance. Additionally, inadequate infrastructure, including a shortage of classrooms, qualified teachers, and sanitation facilities, hinders the overall learning environment. The study suggests targeted policy interventions to improve access to education and promote economic development in the region. Proposed solutions include increased government investment in educational infrastructure, financial aid for economically disadvantaged students, and community-driven initiatives to raise awareness about the value of education for both boys and girls. Furthermore, creating an inclusive and non-discriminatory school environment is essential to overcoming caste-based barriers and ensuring equal opportunities for all students.
