This research paper aims to explore the impact of materialism on Mridula and Sanjay in Sudha Murthy's The House of Cards. Both characters navigate a society that values wealth and status over authentic relationships. Sanjay, in his pursuit of success and financial stability, often neglects his friends and family, leading to feelings of loneliness and dissatisfaction. His fixation on money distances him from his loved ones, as he prioritizes work and material possessions over meaningful connections.Murthy highlights the negative impact of materialism on interpersonal connections through their travels, showing how pursuing wealth may result in emotional detachment and loneliness. This story serves as an example that moral values and close relationships are far more significant than material wealth and status.
