Abstract

The rapid rise of smartphone usage in India has fundamentally reshaped the e-commerce sector, transforming the way consumers browse, purchase, and engage in online transactions. This empirical research examines how smartphone adoption influences the growth of e-commerce in the country by analysing the major factors that drive consumer behaviour, acceptance, and continued usage. A mixed-methods research design was adopted, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data were gathered through a survey of 1,000 participants and detailed interviews with 30 industry experts and consumers. The results indicate that smartphone usage significantly enhances e-commerce adoption, with convenience, easy accessibility, and mobile-optimized platforms standing out as key contributors to consumer involvement. Nevertheless, issues such as concerns about data security, low levels of digital literacy, and infrastructural gaps remain notable obstacles. The study highlights the need for improved mobile optimization, targeted marketing strategies, and seamless payment systems to strengthen user experience. Overall, the research adds to the body of knowledge on e-commerce and mobile commerce, offering meaningful insights for businesses, policymakers, and other stakeholders seeking to leverage the growing impact of smartphones on India’s dynamic digital marketplace.
