OF SMALL THINGS
Dr. Sandeep Kumar
Indian author and novelist, Arundhati Roy writes in English. She is a political activist in addition to being a screenwriter. Her 1997 Booker Prize-winning novel, The God of Small Things, was her most notable achievement.
Humans need relationships to not only have someone by their side but also to solidify themselves during life's storms. Man's family is the foundation that sustains him through his highs and lows. Without family, a person's existence is incomplete; if family members lack empathy and oneness with one another, their bond will undoubtedly be severed. A large familial chain and human ties abound in the novel. The novel God of Small Things explores the relationships between an Ipe family and the Indian caste and political structures. The complex ties between the Ipe family members and how dysfunctional families stole their happiness and tranquilly and forced them towards solitude.
Novel reflects the complex interactions amongst Ipe family members and how dysfunctional families grabbed their happiness and tranquilly and drove them to the brink. The main cause of the story's devastation is the presence of caste and gender inequality, as well as love laws that are imposed by society.
